The greatest time to be in Bloomington is for Little 5. The whole week there are various activities and concerts going on leading up the to main events of the races on Friday and Saturday. Both races were great this year with Pi Phi winning the women’s race and the Cutters taking the title for the men. There was beautiful weather for both days and two very competitive races.

As I’m sure you are aware, this past weekend, IU celebrated the Little 500! This is a very exciting time for our campus and this time is known to be one of the best college weekends in the nation. The riders were just ready to explode with anticipation and the fans of their specific teams were loud and proud. Happy, sun-burnt faces were seen from bleacher to bleacher. Just another great weekend at IU.

Little 500 is one of the most exciting times of the year at IU. People come from all over, and the campus is buzzing. My boyfriend Jon came in for the races too. He was just accepted to IU for graduate school, so he’s in the same boat as you. We stopped at the bookstore to stock up on IU gear for him. You’ll have so much fun picking out your tee-shirts and hats, you’ll have a whole IU wardrobe before you know it! On Saturday, we went to the men’s race with my neighbors Sarah and Erin. It was the best race I’ve seen by far, it was so close! We were so happy that the Cutters got their 3-peat! When you come to IU, you’ll have to go to Little 500 every year. It’s the best tradition!

Jon needed a good IU hat, you will too!

It was so sunny and warm. We couldn’t have asked for better weather.

You could barely find a seat, it was so packed.

We are nearing the end of the year so I’ve been trying to soak in the campus as much as possible before I have to move home. Thanks to the nice weather, Showalter Fountain is running again and many people sit out next to it and study. Some classes even choose to have class out by the fountain sometimes.

Saturday was Collins Fest. Let me sum it up for you. -Cotton candy, cheeseburgers, tie dye t-shirts, free books, a moon bounce, and live music.- Pretty cool right? Right!

This past week there was an enormous water balloon fight on Dunn Meadow hosted by Alpha Phi Omega. With there being over 30,000 balloons used, this event was meant to be the largest water fight in IU history, all to support of the March of Dimes. Very wet, very fun.

The weather here has been so gorgeous lately, minus a little rain! The forecast is looking very good for Little 500 so everyone is excited. Just walking to class is wonderful. All the birds are chirping and the flowers are blooming (which is probably why I’ve been sneezing so much!) Over the weekend, I went to the mall with my neighbor Sarah and we played with the puppies and the pet store. Then I hung out with my friends Luke and Erynn in Eigenmann. Luke is an RA there. Since he was on duty that night, we just hung out in his room and played old-school pac-man. Good times in the dorms!

Bee-you-tee-full!

Luke is a pac-man master.

I love the IU Art Museum at night.

Beautiful weather has taken over Bloomington again. After some rain, the sun has come back out and given campus that different feeling of excitement. I can’t wait until Little 500 next week!

It is getting to the time when campus has a different feel. The weather gets nicer, students come out of their rooms and lay out outside or play a pickup game of basketball. Everyone gets excited because Little 500 is coming up in a couple of weeks. This is one of my favorite parts of the year.

On Sunday, I went to a scholarship ceremony for the School of Journalism in the Union. It was a really nice event in Alumni Hall, complete with red and white balloons. The J-School gives tons of scholarships to undergraduates each year, including incoming freshman! Several hundred people were there. It was great to see everybody’s families and all the scholarship donors. I received the Trevor Brown International Teaching Scholarship! I’m very happy because it will help me finance my study abroad in London this summer.

It was pretty packed.

Alex got the same award as I did. He’s going to London too!

Trevor Brown was there to give us the awards.
